Who we are
gaffr.uk, the Gaffr app and the Gaffr Live app are run by GAFFR LTD LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17461178), registered office 66 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NA, trading as Gaffr. “We” and “us” on this page means that company. Talk to us at hello@gaffr.uk.
What these terms cover
These terms cover your use of this website. By using it, you accept them. If you don’t, don’t use the site.
They don’t cover booking crew or working as crew. That happens in the apps, under the terms you accept in them. The using the apps section below points you to those terms and describes how the apps work today. Our privacy policy and cookies page cover your data.
Using the website
Use the site for what it’s for: finding out about Gaffr and getting on the waitlist. Don’t:
- try to break it, overload it or get into parts of it that aren’t public;
- test it for security holes without asking us first (found one anyway? Tell us at hello@gaffr.uk);
- scrape or copy it in bulk;
- put anyone else’s details on the waitlist;
- pretend to be Gaffr, or to speak for us.
What the site says is not an offer
Prices, fees, areas and features on this site describe Gaffr as we’re building it. They aren’t an offer and they can change. What a booking costs, and what you’re paid, is what the app shows you before you commit.
The waitlist
Joining the waitlist doesn’t guarantee an invite, a booking or work. You can leave at any time by emailing hello@gaffr.uk.
Our name and our work
The Gaffr and Gaffr Live names, the wordmark, the tape-X logo, and the words and design of this site are ours. Share links to it all you like. Don’t copy the brand or use it in a way that suggests we’re behind something we’re not.
Other sites
Where we link to someone else’s site, it’s theirs, not ours, and we’re not responsible for it.
Availability
We can change the site or take it down at any time. We don’t promise it will always be up, or free of mistakes.
Using the apps
The terms that apply
- Clients, in the Gaffr app: the fee structure (version 2026-10.1) and the payment terms (version 2026-10.3), both accepted during sign-up.
- Crew, in Gaffr Live: the Crew Terms v1.0, accepted during onboarding.
The app records which version you accepted and when. When a new version of the crew terms comes out, crew have to accept it before they’re offered work again. The client app doesn’t yet ask existing clients to accept a new version of the payment terms, so the version on record for a client is the one they accepted at sign-up.
This page is a guide to how the apps work today. It isn’t a separate contract and it doesn’t add to the terms you accepted.
Crew Terms v1.0 are out of date in places
- Gaffr charges crew no fee. Every offer shows “Fee charged to you by Gaffr: £0.00”, whatever v1.0 says about a platform fee.
- Gaffr Live now asks for your National Insurance number, because HMRC’s rules for digital platforms require it.
- They say Gaffr doesn’t approve substitutes. In practice Gaffr checks that the colleague you name is eligible, and a person at Gaffr makes the swap.
- Their section on your data is replaced by our privacy policy.
How the money works
- Crew set their own hourly rate. Clients set the most they’ll pay per hour. Only crew at or under it are offered the booking, and the client sees the actual rate the moment someone accepts.
- Every booking shows two numbers: the Crew Member fee, which is the crew member’s, and the Gaffr Platform Fee (plus any VAT on it), which is ours. The app shows both before you book.
- Booking places a hold on the client’s card for the most it could cost: the maximum rate × the hours booked, plus the Platform Fee. There’s no upper limit, but a bank may decline a big hold. A hold reserves the money; it doesn’t take it.
- When the shift ends, we take the crew member’s rate × the hours booked, plus the Platform Fee, from the hold and release the rest. When the release shows on the card is up to the bank.
- Extra hours go on a separate hold, and only if the crew member agrees. If they say no, or don’t answer within 10 minutes, it’s released.
- Crew are paid the Crew Member fee in full. Gaffr takes nothing from crew. Our only charge is the Platform Fee, which the client pays. Crew need a Stripe payout account before they can go live; paying them through it is still being built.
- Receipts are in the app, with a PDF, showing the two numbers separately. We don’t email them yet.
- Something wrong with a shift? The payment terms say to raise it in the app within 48 hours of the end. That in-app route isn’t built yet, so email hello@gaffr.uk within the same 48 hours.
Exactly who contracts with whom, and so who is responsible for what, isn’t settled yet. It’s a question for a solicitor, and until one has signed it off, there are no live payments.
Cancelling a booking
This is the policy in payment terms 2026-10.3. Times are measured from the call time. The share of the Crew Member fee goes to the crew member; the Platform Fee, and any VAT on it, is Gaffr’s.
Before a crew member accepts
- You pay
- Nothing. The hold on your card is released.
- The crew member gets
- Nobody’s booked yet.
More than 48 hours before the call time
- You pay
- The Gaffr Platform Fee
- The crew member gets
- Nothing. We tell them the job’s off.
24 to 48 hours before
- You pay
- Half the Crew Member fee, plus the Platform Fee
- The crew member gets
- Half their fee
Less than 24 hours before
- You pay
- The full Crew Member fee, plus the Platform Fee
- The crew member gets
- Their full fee
Once it’s started: they’re on the way or on site, or the call time has passed
- You pay
- The full Crew Member fee, plus the Platform Fee
- The crew member gets
- Their full fee, and we tell them to stand down straight away
| When you cancel | You pay | The crew member gets |
|---|---|---|
| Before a crew member accepts | Nothing. The hold on your card is released. | Nobody’s booked yet. |
| More than 48 hours before the call time | The Gaffr Platform Fee | Nothing. We tell them the job’s off. |
| 24 to 48 hours before | Half the Crew Member fee, plus the Platform Fee | Half their fee |
| Less than 24 hours before | The full Crew Member fee, plus the Platform Fee | Their full fee |
| Once it’s started: they’re on the way or on site, or the call time has passed | The full Crew Member fee, plus the Platform Fee | Their full fee, and we tell them to stand down straight away |
- No grace period. The tiers apply from the moment you book. Book less than 24 hours ahead and cancelling costs the full Crew Member fee plus the Platform Fee as soon as a crew member accepts.
- We take what’s owed from your card hold and release the rest. If the hold has lapsed, we charge your saved card instead, and you can’t book again until it’s paid. The crew member’s share is paid to them once we’ve collected it.
- “Crew didn’t show.” If your crew member hasn’t turned up by the time they’re due, cancel with “Crew didn’t show”. If the booking’s record shows they never set off and never came near the venue, it’s free. If it shows they were on the way, a person checks it before anything is charged.
- If your crew member releases the booking, you pay nothing for them, and cancelling is free again until someone new accepts.
- The half and full shares are fixed. Changing them means a new version of the payment terms.
When crew can’t make it
- Release it in Gaffr Live. We reopen the booking and may match someone else; the client is told. You won’t be offered that booking again. Releasing is noted on your record. We look at each one in context, emergencies don’t count against you, and nothing happens automatically. It never affects which other offers you get.
- Or name a colleague to cover it. They have to be a verified Gaffr crew member who meets the booking’s requirements, and they give you their crew code to do it. Gaffr checks them but doesn’t choose them; for now a person at Gaffr confirms with your colleague and makes the swap. They work the shift and are paid for it.
- Don’t turn up and the client can cancel with “Crew didn’t show”. If it stands, you’re not paid for that booking and it’s recorded as a no-show. Think it’s wrong? Email hello@gaffr.uk and a person will look at it.
Crew Terms v1.0 also set out strikes for no-shows and a charge for late cancellation. The app doesn’t apply either, and both are part of the rewrite.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute about them. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
We’ll change these terms as Gaffr changes. When we do, the date at the top changes. The version on this page when you use the site is the one that applies.
