The short answer
Search for the venue by name, address or postcode, or use where you are. Then move the map so the pin sits where you'll meet the crew member. The crew member who accepts gets the pin as the meeting point, not the address. Crew offered the booking see the address and your "Where in the venue" note. The pin goes only to the crew member who accepts.
How do I find the venue?
The booking's "Venue" step has a search box: "Venue name, address or postcode". Picking a result "Fills in the address and puts the pin on the map."
If search can't find it, use "Enter the address yourself". If search finds nothing, the app says: "Nothing found. Try the postcode, or enter the address yourself."
Can I use where I am?
Yes. Tap "Use my current location" on the venue step.
- It takes one reading of where you are, when you tap.
- It fills in the address and postcode and puts the pin there.
- Gaffr doesn't store the reading. If you book with the pin still there, that spot becomes the meeting point.
If Gaffr can't get your location, the app says: "Couldn't get your location. Check location is on for Gaffr in Settings, or search for the venue."
What's the meeting point?
The pin on the map. The next step says: "Move the map to put the pin on the door." And: "Your crew member comes to the pin, so put it where you'll meet them."
A big venue's door can be a long way from its postal address. The pin lets you choose the right one.
How far can the pin be from the address?
Gaffr checks the pin against the address. If the pin is more than 3 km away, the app won't take the booking. It says: "The meeting point pin is a long way from the venue's address. Move the pin to the venue, or check the address."
Say you picked the venue from search or your location. Moving the pin over 1 km from it shows: "That pin is over a kilometre from the address. Your crew member comes to the pin, so check it's on the venue."
If you change the address after picking it, the pin from that pick is dropped. Place it again.
Can I say where in the venue?
Yes, in the next step. The box is "Where in the venue (optional)". It's for "The hall, suite, room or stand they'll be working in." For example, "Hall 5, stand B42".
What do crew see before they accept?
The Opportunity shows the street address, labelled "Venue", and your "Where in the venue" note. It doesn't show the pin.
A pin off the address's own spot adds: "The client has set a meeting point on the map. You get the pin when you accept."
What does the crew member see once they're booked?
"Meet at the pin", with a button: "Open the pin in Maps". That opens their maps app at the pin, not the address. The address follows, labelled "Venue".
If the pin isn't on the address's own spot, it also says: "The client placed this pin. Go to the pin, not the address."
Which venues can I book?
Venues in the West Midlands postcode areas B, CV, DY, WS and WV. A venue just outside them can be booked if a crew member lives within reach of it.
The app tells you only whether a venue can be booked. If it can't, the app says no crew would be offered the shift. It also offers the waitlist: "Booking somewhere else? Join the waitlist".
When nobody takes your booking explains how far Gaffr looks for crew.
